HyDEX warmly welcomes the election of the Labour Party into government today.
Labour’s commitment to addressing climate change and promoting renewable energy aligns closely with ERA’s mission to accelerate the development of sustainable energy solutions.
One of the key elements of Labour’s energy strategy is the formation of Gb Energy. GB Energy will enhance energy security, create green jobs, and drive innovation in the renewable sector. It has the potential to play a pivotal role in transitioning the UK towards a sustainable energy future. We were delighted to be able to contribute to the thinking on GB Energy through our policy commission report ‘Assessing the Case for a Publicly Owned Energy Company’.
In addition, we also welcome Labour’s recognition of the vital role of nuclear energy. We have established Midlands Nuclear to bring together businesses, universities and public sector organisations to develop the nuclear sector in the Midlands region. Building on the ambition to create the STEP fusion reactor at West Burton in Nottinghamshire, Midlands Nuclear is helping to promote the benefits of nuclear investment in the region which will create new highly skilled jobs.
We are also confident that Labour’s commitment to develop the hydrogen economy will help us build on the work that we have been doing through our HyDEX programme. Through HyDEX we have created new hydrogen demonstrators to research and develop novel methods of producing and storing hydrogen. We are also helping regional businesses to develop skills for the hydrogen economy.
ERA hopes that Labour will continue to invest in energy research and development so that universities and businesses can work together to keep the UK at the forefront of energy innovation.
The Energy Research Accelerator is very much looking forward to working with the new Labour government to help it deliver its vision for a greener and more sustainable country.
