Delegates from across Europe and the UK attended a special HyDEX & Energy Research Accelerator (ERA) event in Brussels on 20 November to discuss the case for collaboration in hydrogen between the UK and EU.
The key recommendation from the HyDEX report – Hydrogen: The Case for UK-EU Collaboration are that the time is right for both parties to establish a Hydrogen Taskforce in order to produce a Hydrogen Agreement which should comprise of actions including:
- Development of UK-EU cross-border hydrogen pipelines and storage facilities.
- Common safety standards.
- Developing a UK-EU Hydrogen Market
- Support for modelling of whole system benefits
- A platform for sharing best practice such as the EU Hydrogen Valley, and the work on skills and technology development by HyDEX and others in the UK.
Delegates and speakers agreed that with the reset of relations between the UK & EU and the enormous potential benefits of a hydrogen partnership, the time is now right for a UK-EU Hydrogen Agreement to be establlished.
